How Can you Prevent Yourself from UV Radiation Exposure?

The best way to avoid exposure to the Ultraviolet rays is by not stepping out of the house when the sun is up. However, this is not practical. There is no way to avoid the sun but there are many ways to avoid the ultraviolet exposure.

UV is that area of the light spectrum which is not visible to us. But this does not keep it from harming our skin. Excessive exposure to these rays can cause several skin related problems including sunburns, skin cell damage, ageing, and in rare cases skin cancer too. However, there is nothing to worry about since you can easily avoid these rays.

UV rays are more intense during the winter seasons. So the best way to avoid them is by wearing the clothes that cover your skin to the maximum. Wear full sleeve clothes and throw on a hat or cap if possible. Do not wear very dark clothes as they tend to absorb more heat, light, and UV rays. Wear light coloured clothes that are capable of reflecting the rays away. We are more exposed to the UV rays during the winters because being out under the sun is very pleasant at this time.

If you are sun basking during winters, make sure that you apply the sunscreen lotion generously on your skin. These sunscreens are created to keep the UV rays away from your body but at the same time they do not keep the necessary nutrient vitamin D from you. Different sunscreens have different capabilities to block the UV rays. The SPF parameter, also known as sun protection factor, determines the amount of UV rays blocked. A sunscreen designated as SPF 40 blocks 40 percent of the rays. Similarly, SPF 100 blocks almost all the UV rays.
